Rummaging through our local bric-a-brac shop on Friday, I stumbled across these incredible issues of Picture Post magazine.  Picture Post has been compared to Life Magazine in the US.  Not only do they tell incredible stories about Britain during the war-time era, but the photographs are simply stunning.

Sometimes I need reminding why it’s so important that we document our lives and times.

I love the caption on the image below – gotta keep all those handsome GIs for the local girls, haha.

The image below really struck me.  How desperate people must have been for the war to end.

And, slightly more light-hearted … these ads are brilliant  😉

Gorgeous.

This is a slightly self-indulgent post, I know, but I just wanted to share these with you all.  Please feel free to comment below and let me know what you think of them 🙂

I hope you are all having a lovely, lazy Sunday x

A wonderful kind of self indulgence, I think. Love the Cinderella shot!

not self-indulgent at all - this is powerful stuff. So hard for us to imagine that this WAS the news - there was no internet, no TV delivering these images instantly every day.
Wowee, what an amazing and completely fascinating find in your local bric-a-brac shop too! These kind of images and indeed old magazines amaz me. I collect vintage vogue magazines and my favourite was one I paid £100 for form the 1920s - it's in superb condition and still has it's little subscription card inside. Looking through and wondering what the lives of folk were like back then is incredible but this find of yours is so rich in cultural and historical information. I do love the image at the end - the Cinderalla one, and the image of the guy 4th down captures so much emotion. Ace find and thanks for sharing Kirsten ;) xXx

your post made me think of Tom Hopkinson's book on Picture Post 1938-50, well worth getting if you ever see a copy. thanks for sharing the above images.

What a brilliant find! I grew up leafing through my father's editions of Life magazine, and nothing beats this kind of photojournalism. Love it.
