This wasn’t an ‘official’ newborn photography shoot, just a few images I grabbed while meeting my friend’s new baby boy.  Isn’t he beautiful!?

It’s a fine line, when editing newborns, between editing too little and too much.  By that I mean, it’s tempting to clean up every blemish and mark and make the skin look absolutely perfect.  The problem with that is that I believe that you’re then altering the truth and the honesty of the image too much.  I’ve seen newborn shoots done where the skin looks plastic and waxy.  I like to think that I fall somewhere in the middle, in that I remove very large temporary marks, but I try to leave the skin texture as it is.  I would certainly never remove a birthmark or freckles.  Actually, this is true of how I edit adults, too.

Baby yawns are the best.

I agree with you on the retouching. It's so tempting with new borns to magic all their newness away, but I think you've landed right where you should be. Somewhere in the middle, still true to life and still aesthetically appealing.

I love the yawning shot and the one of his eyes open the best. I've just had them all printed ;)

This is beautifully made portrait photography. The way you photograph newborns with their cute faces is just magical. I adore your work. Rene
